    1. WELO (Water Efficient Landscape Ordinance)-State level ordinance which promotes the efficient use of water in new and retrofitted landscapes over 500 square feet
    2. CIMIS (CA Irrigation Management Information Systems)-Network of weather stations collecting data across the state for the efficient application of irrigation
    3. MAWA (Maximum Allowed Water Allowance)- This is the upper limit of the annual allowed water for an established landscape area. The calculated number is based upon the size of the Landscape and evapotranspiration (ETo).
    4. WUCOLS (Water Use Classification of Landscape Species)-Dataset of irrigation needs of over 3,500 species of plants use in landscapes in the state of CA

  12. Homework
    1. Students practice calculating the amount a client can receive in rebates using the prompt provided. Upload the homework to the assignment box below. Allowed file types are pdf, doc, jpg or png.
      1. Client has 3,500 square feet of turf, part of which they want replaced with native shrubs, perennials, and flowers. They want to retain 1,000 square feet of grass for the kids, which is under a few zones with a total of 30 older conventional nozzles. They plan to install 2 Rain Cisterns and are interested in a smart controller.  The total punch list from the client for the retrofit includes the following:
        1. 2,500 square feet of turf + old irrigation removed
        2. 5 x drip zones
        3. 30 conventional nozzles replaced w/ MPR’s
        4. 10 Zone Irrigation Controller
        5. 1 ton gravel + cobbles 
        6. 3 x 24” box trees
        7. 15 x 5G shrubs 
        8. 85 x 1G perennials and grasses
        9. 25 yards mulch
        10. 2 x 250 Gallon Cisterns
        11. Installation fees for all of the above
      2. How much would you charge? What amount of money is available to the client to offset your quote? Don’t forget that turf conversion for rebate cannot use sprinklers, must include a rain basin, and have other caveats that we covered in class.
